Satire and Humor Festival

The Satire and Humor Festival 2020 is a weekend-long celebration of writers and lovers of humor and satire from March 27th-29th. Join us for workshops, shows, panels, and hanging out with people who are serious about being funny. With guests including McSweeney’s editor-in-chief Chris Monks, writers and performers from all over the country, and the people you follow on twitter but haven’t met IRL.

Book Nerds: A Literary Character Showcase

Friday March 27th
7pm

All your favorite authors, characters, and literary tropes are off the page and on stage! The funniest comedians and writers will be performing literary characters inspired by authors, characters, literary tropes, and more!

 

Real Life Track Changes: Comedy Speed Collaborating

Saturday March 28th
3-4pm

Take your Google Doc skills offline! A structured, one-hour meet and greet to pitch ideas, meet writers, illustrators, and editors. Get there on-time to cycle through a few rounds of introductions to new friends and potential collaborators. Facilitated by the fest co-founders and your favorite illustrators and editors.

 

In Conversation with Chris Monks

Festival co-founder Caitlin Kunkel talks with McSweeney’s Internet Tendency editor Chris Monks about writing, editing, and the infamous jerk folder. This is sure to be an insightful conversation about short humor from one of the most experienced editors in the biz!

 

Writing Funny Across Media

Saturday  March 28th
6-7pm

Learn how to come up with ideas, pitch, and write comedy for all sorts of different media. Making comedy today doesn’t just mean staffing for TV or writing movies. This moderated panel brings together people who are creating comedy for diverse media and platforms -- TV, books, the web, audio, apps, and more -- to discuss their experiences and expertise, how they see the medium they work in as distinct, what excites them about it, and more.

 

An Evening of Humorous Readings

New York’s longest-running humor reading show is back with tons of funny guests! An Evening of Humorous Readings is a monthly show of literary humorists reading their most literary humor that has featured writers from The New Yorker, McSweeney’s

 

Writing Professionally + Goodbye Hang

Sunday March 29th
3:30 - 5:30 pm

Learn and ask questions about the business of writing, In this moderated panel and Q&A our guests’ experiences range from production, event planning, publishing, to screenwriting, and they will be able to offer insight as to how to navigate the many different avenues in the writing industry. After the panel, we’ll do another short networking event and a goodbye hang to end the Satire and Humor festival weekend.
