You know when your train is f*cked – this is the show that tells you WHY.
This month's show: The L Train's Sabbatical – As we crawl into 2019 and slowly approach the official start date of the L train shutdown this April, your subway superheros Meg and Justin (with help from our man on the inside) are here to give you the lowdown on why the L train is so fucked and how the MTA plans to fix it. Was Sandy REALLY that bad? Will the shuttle buses REALLY get us over the bridge into the next borough? Only time will tell – but we're here to make some fun predictions and help you prepare, you lovable transit hipsters.
Tickets: $15 in advance, $20 at the door
Please note this is a mixed seated and standing venue. Arrive early for the best seats.
THIS MONTH'S EXPERT: A Mysterious MTA Employee!
Our special guest this month is a Mysterious MTA Employee who has asked to remain anonymous. They will be joining us to talk about their experience at the storied institution and lend a unique perspective into the shutdown and planned updates to the L train line. If you are a transit nerd like us, you WILL NOT want to miss this show!
THIS MONTH'S BUSKER: Connell Thompson
Connell Thompson's silky tone, soulful chops, and swinging hips make him one of the baddest horn players of the New York Underground. His renditions of SZA, Rihanna, Drake and Ella Mai put smiles on straphangers faces and gained him an enthusiastic following both in the New York subways and online. He performs with many eclectic groups and venues, including The Blue Note with Motown band Decade of Soul, The Kennedy Center with classical/hip hop fusion group Shouthouse, and the Otis Mountain Festival with his original Balkan party band Tipsy Oxcart.
ABOUT THE SHOW:
Get on board for a deep dive into the history of the MTA. Whether you love it, hate it, or want to compose more informed rage-tweets about it during your next 20 minute delay – we’ve got you covered. Your hosts Meg Pierson (TEDx, Alchemy Comedy) and Justin Williams (City College, SirusXM), along with a mysterious anonymous ghostwriter, will conduct our show through the twists and turns of history; revealing unbelievable stories, subway life-hacks, and truly upsetting details about our subway system.
Meg Pierson: A Brooklyn resident, Meg co-founded Alchemy Comedy Theater in South Carolina. In addition to helping to write and produce the pet health video series Cone of Shame, Meg travels internationally teaching improv workshops at veterinary conferences – she isn’t a vet but if your cat’s peeing outside of the litterbox it’s probably a UTI. She’s a two-time emcee of TEDx Greenville and currently hosts Versus at Caveat every second Saturday. In her free time, she offers people jobs at Axiom Law.
Justin Williams is an Assistant Professor of History at the City College of New York. Justin is also a comedian that has been featured on Comedy Central’s Jokes.com, Mashable, SiriusXM Radio, The Elite Daily, Men’s Health Magazine, The Kansas City Star, ‘Morning Buzz Live‘ on VH1, ‘Trial by Laughter’ on Comcast, ‘Laughs’ on Fox and ‘The Comedy Show Show’ on Seeso.
